Understanding Reiki Healing and Universal Life Force Energy!

Are you having trouble coping lately, feeling drained, stressed, or weighed down by invisible backpacks of emotional exhaustion? Well, you aren't the only one. In today's fast-paced life, experiencing burnout and fatigue has almost become a norm. In such cases, when regular rest seems like it won't work anymore, it might be high time to turn your attention to some holistic therapy approaches. These therapies aim to restore your body's balance not just on a physiological but psychological level.

However, the question still remains whether it is possible to treat various problems without medications. One practice that enjoys huge popularity in hospitals, wellness facilities, and yoga studios is known as Reiki. Read on to discover how Reiki healing works and how it can support your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

What is Reiki? Understanding the Roots

Reiki was created by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan in the beginning of the 20th century. Reiki combines two words in Japanese:

  • Rei – universal or higher power;

  • Ki – vital life force energy.

Thus, Reiki stands for universal life force energy. The principle upon which it operates includes the belief that this energy moves throughout our body. And when our energy flow is free and strong enough, we feel healthy both physically and mentally, and we don't feel tired at all. When this energy is blocked or restricted in any way, discomfort appears.

The task of a Reiki practitioner is to serve as a sort of a tuning fork, channeling the surrounding universal energy into the patient to remove these blockages and activate the self-healing potential of their body.

Energy Balance and Chakras

Interestingly, Reiki is not the only practice that relies on the principle of energy balance. The concept of a vital life force is present in different countries and ancient cultures. For example, according to traditional Chinese medicine, there is the concept of qi (pronounced "chee"). There is also the concept of prana in India, the energy which moves through the chakras of our body (which are our main energy centers).

So, in the course of an energy healing session, a practitioner attempts to identify and solve disruptions that occur in energy paths of your body. Although there are no ways to measure universal energy in the laboratory yet, its physical impact is undeniable. In order to restore the balance in energy, the body automatically switches from sympathetic nervous system activation ("fight or flight") to parasympathetic nervous system activation ("rest and repair").

The Five Reiki Principles

Dr. Usui not only created this practice, he also left his students five main principles for daily living. These principles help to maintain your mental well-being and these are as follows:

  • Just for today, I will not worry: Focus on living in the present and reduce anxiety about the future.

  • Just for today, I will not be angry: Practice emotional calmness, patience, and self-control.

  • Just for today, I will be grateful: Develop an attitude of gratitude and appreciate life's blessings.

  • Just for today, I will do my work honestly: Act with integrity, sincerity, and responsibility in everything you do.

  • Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing: Show compassion, kindness, and respect toward all people, animals, and nature.

What Can be Expected during the Appointment?

If one decides to make the first attempt, they might experience a combination of curiosity and some level of doubt. Entering a session feels much the same way as entering an upscale spa – yet the procedure itself is entirely non-invasive.

This is what can be expected from a usual 60-to-90-minute session:

  • The environment: The client enters a quiet room with subdued light and soft background music. There's a padded massage table for them to use.

  • The preparation: In contrast to a regular massage, during the whole session one stays dressed, only taking off their shoes. Then they lay down on the bed comfortably, face up.

  • The placement: The practitioner starts with carefully placing their hands in certain positions on specific areas of the client's body or even hovering their hands a couple of inches above these spots. Typically, it begins from the head and continues towards the feet while focusing on major energy centers, joints, and locations close to internal organs.

  • The sensations: The client experiences some physical sensations caused by centering, clearing, and smoothing the aura. The feelings might range from deep warmth to tingling or light buzzing.

Many people fall into such a relaxing trance during this practice that they easily fall asleep. Upon waking up after the session, most participants claim to feel very clear-minded, as if waking up from a deeply restful nap.

Exploring the Practical Results of This Therapy

Due to operating on energetic and holistic levels, Reiki helps promote a vast number of effects. However, it shouldn't be used as a replacement for conventional medical treatment but rather as an extremely efficient complementary one.

Important note: Reiki doesn't treat diseases or health problems directly. It only creates perfect conditions in your mind and body so that the healing process can take place.

Some of the main reasons why many choose to add this therapy to their wellness routine include:

  • Deep Stress Relief: Helping your nervous system relax, it quickly decreases your levels of cortisol.

  • Improved Sleep: Managing your stress and calming an active mind makes falling and staying asleep much easier.

  • Emotional Purification: By helping energy to flow, some repressed emotions or traumas become liberated, creating a lasting state of inner peace.

  • Pain Control: In many clinical practices, this therapy is used to complement cancer treatment and postoperative care, alleviating both perceived physical pain and muscle tightness.

  • Blood Flow Improvement: Relaxing causes dilation of blood vessels and improved oxygen and nutrient transportation to various tissues of the body.

Conclusion

Overall, Reiki is an incredible practice that reminds us of how important it is to slow down in order to heal and take care of ourselves properly. Through harmonizing our energy balance, relieving our minds of clutter, and connecting with universal life force energy, we give our bodies and souls the chance to recover peacefully.
